Although the article is titled food crisis in Sahel and seems to be introduced as exactly that, once studying the article a little closer it is clear to the reader that the piece of writing is infact just an advertisement for the oxfam charity, It is quite clear that this is the case, and this is because the "article" is constantly telling you what is going wrong with the food crisis, then Oxfam is being pulled into the picture and being made out to be saving the day.
The target audience for this article is the western world, the people that Oxfam know for a fact are going to donate and do everything in their power to help. The complete point of the article is to persuade the audience to try and contribute to these poor people who are going through a food crisis, when in reality the Oxfam organisation is trying to put you in a state of feeling sorry and trying to do anything you can to help, and therefore feed money through to the charity.
The main advertising strategy used in the text is the "Problem/Solution" strategy. The Pathos, Logos and Ethos are also used quite a lot, the logos is used to draw the reader in to how bad the crisis really is and all of the statistics and details. The pathos is what is used to make the reader feel really upset about the situation and therefore makes them want to do whatever they can to help the people in Sahel. The tone of the text is very saddening and serious, its almost got a very sympathetic feel to it, just because of the fact that so much upsetting fact are being thrown at you all in one,
The structure of the text is relevant to try and use the modern day, short attention spanned humans as a weakness and therefore allow the people to skim through quickly and not actually read all of the factual things. This could therefore lead the reader to actually all into the trap of thinking that the food shortage is what the article is about.
The article is targetting western people who do not really research well enough where their money is going to and therefore dall into the bait, in this case this article has completely and falsely drawn the people in.
